Membership Levels


On July 1, 2012 we will raise our membership rates for the first time in 20 years. We know that right now, with everything else costing so much, rate increases can be challenging – and we haven’t made the decision lightly.

The good news is that you can renew your current membership at the 1992 rates until June 30th, 2012. The best news is that we will be able to continue bringing you the quality programs you expect from us, and to care for the artifacts we all treasure. We are so very appreciative of your continued support.

At the Rhode Island Historical Society, we believe that through our state’s compelling history an endless trail of fascinating stories, entertaining adventures, and instructive experiences can be followed.

Becoming a member of the Rhode Island Historical Society offers you much more than free admission to our museums – at also gives you access to our Concerts Under the Elms series, a host of special events, and much more. There are a range of membership levels to meet your needs, and gift memberships are available at every level.

Current Rates


Student or Senior (65 & older).......................$30
Basic .......................$40

Benefits for these levels include:

  • Twelve-month subscriptions to our newsletter, program calendar, and Rhode Island History Journal
  • Invitations to exhibit previews and special events
  • Free admission for two adults (member plus guest) and accompanying minor children to the Society’s museums and library*
  • Free admission for two adults (member plus guest) and accompanying minor children to the Society’s summer concert series
  • Discounts on gift shop purchases, tickets for SummerWalks historical walking tours, and research and program fees

Gaspee Group.......................$50 - $99

Benefits include all of the above, plus:

  • Two guest passes a year, each good for one-time admission to either of the Society’s museums
  • Admission for two guests at member rates to RIHS events
  • Two free tickets for the Benefit Street SummerWalks tour

May 4th Circle.......................$100 - $249

Benefits include all of the above, plus:


Friends of Roger Williams........................$250 and up

  • Invitations to a special event with the Society’s Executive Director
  • Four guest passes a year, each good for one-time admission to either of the Society’s museums
  • Discounts on Aldrich House rental fees

    *The RIHS Library is free to all RI residents, but nonresident patrons pay $8.00, or $5.00 for students and seniors.
