Historical note:


            Ethan Clark, son of Joshua, was of Westerly, Newport and East Greenwich. He was married 4 Feb 1776 at Westerly to Anna Ward, daughter of Gov. Samuel and Anne (Ray) Ward, with whom he had six children. After making his fortune he retired to the countryside of East Greenwich. Clarke was active in forming the Greenwich Academy and at one time president of the East Greenwich, R.I. Bank. He served as a captain in the Revolutionary War and was administrator of his father-in-law's estate.
