Historical note:

The Trout Growers Cooperative Association was organized in 1955 and incorporated in Rhode Island in 1957. It had its offices in South Kingstown, R.I.; Thomas P. Hazard's American Fish Culture Company was an important force in its organization. The Association served as a sales cooperative for several trout hatcheries in New England and New York, and took a 15% commission on all sales to cover expenses. Profits were divided among shareholders, which were largely the member companies. The Association employed Andrew C. Smith as manager; after his death in October of 1958, he was replaced by Royall Scott of South Norwalk, Connecticut. Earl W.G. Howard, a Hazard family administrator, served as secretary-treasurer for the duration of its existence. The co-operative became inactive in 1961 and was formally dissolved in 1963.
