Historical note:

This trust was created in 1932 by Mary P.B. Hazard, the widow of Rowland G. Hazard II (1855-1918). It included cash, stock holdings, accounts receivable (mostly from other family ventures) and extensive real estate holdings. The real estate included 27 lots of land in South Kingstown, as well as property in California and Vermont. It apparently did not include Holly House, the family home, which operated under the related Holly House Trust.

The trust supported Mary P.B. Hazard for the remaining four years of her life. After her death in 1936, the trust continued to generate income for her heirs. It served as a major creditor of Rowland Hazard III's various business ventures, and also of the Caro Cloth Company. Apparently, Holly House was maintained as a vacation home for family members on a rotating basis, and expenses were charged against their trust accounts.

Also included are the original trust indenture listing its assets, correspondence, the trustee's minute book, and tax records. Some of the correspondence discusses damage to family property in the Hurricane of 1938. A small amount of records from the Holly House Trust are also included.
