Licenses to Reproduce our Still Images in Print and Film
It is the Society's pleasure to provide photo reproduction services for the objects in its collections. All applications for Rights and Reproductions must be received in writing. All requests for reproductions are subject to the approval of the Rhode Island Historical Society. The Rhode Island Historical Society offers a one-time non-exclusive License Agreement for use of said still images. Additional markets will be subject to additional license agreements.

Reproductions of materials from the Rhode Island Historical Society’s collection can only be obtained from the Society. Reproductions or the distribution of images taken from printed or electronic materials not supplied directly by the Society are strictly prohibited. The Society reserves the right to refuse to copy any items that may be damaged by the reproduction process or that are restricted by copyright.

Reproductions
The Rhode Island Historical Society does not have an in-house photo-lab or film lab therefore we depend on commercial labs. Once your application is approved and we receive payment, it takes two weeks to process your photographic order. The Graphics collection has a small staff therefore rush orders are not always possible. Uses
The Uses fee is based on a sliding scale from $5.00 to $250.00 per image depending on the type of publication/project. All fees must be paid in advance before a License Agreement is issued and images are released for publication/project. Please refer to the Graphics staff for a current Use Schedule.

Transparency Rentals
Transparency rentals are available under certain circumstances. The patron is responsible for the rental fee of $50.00 and is responsible for the timely return of transparency. If not returned, the patron must pay the cost of another transparency, and any additional fees that have incur.

Payment
Full payment is required in advance for all photo orders and license agreements. Payment may be made in the form of cash, check, American Express, Visa or MasterCard. Applicable taxes and/or mailing fees will be added to all orders. (RI residents 7% tax is required.)

Credit Line
The publisher/producer must prominently place on all copies of the reproductions for each image: “Courtesy the Rhode Island Historical Society” followed by the title, date, medium, artist/creator and negative number “RHi (X)...” This whole credit line is to appear at the publications point of credit be it image list, image caption or film credits.
