Ciné-Québec: La Bolduc

The Museum of Work and Culture, a Rhode Island Historical Society museum, invites guests to Ciné-Québec, an evening of Québécois cinema at the Museum of Work & Culture on Thursday, March 5. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a wine-and-cheese reception followed by a screening of the film La Bolduc at 7 p.m.

Known to the world as “La Bolduc,” singer-songwriter Mary Rose-Anne Travers Bolduc was a French-Canadian folk musician who blended Irish and Québec styles. Known as the Queen of Canadian Folk Singers in the 1930s, she pioneered Québec’s singer-songwriter tradition and is credited with revitalizing the Quebec folk genre in the 20th century. This biopic, directed by François Bouvier and starring Debbie Lynch-White, tells the story of Bolduc, whose lively onstage personality and culturally-influenced musical style made her a hit with working-class audiences in the 1930s.  La Bolduc was one of the highest-grossing Canadian films of 2018 and was a nominee for the Prix Iris for Best Film.

La Bolduc will be presented in French, with English subtitles

Tickets are $25 for film admission and the wine-and-cheese reception, and $10 for film admission only, and may be purchased here.

Ciné-Québec is made possible by the Délégation of Québec in Boston.
