Liberty at Lunchtime | Dey Mansion, Washington’s Headquarters

Join the Rhode Island Historical Society on Wednesday, February 25th at 12:30pm for the second installment of Liberty at Lunchtime, a monthly virtual series highlighting a partners in the other 13 original colonies. The series continues with New Jersey’s Dey Mansion.

Hear from Vivian Davis, Program Development Specialist for the Passaic County Department of Cultural & Historic Affairs, as she speaks on one of New Jersey’s significant surviving Revolutionary-era homes and a former headquarters of General George Washington.  The Dey Mansion and the Passaic County Department of Cultural & Historic Affairs are commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence not only through dynamic public programming, but through long-term preservation and stewardship efforts of their 9 historic sites throughout Passaic County.  This talk will explore how Dey Mansion’s 250th initiatives extend well beyond 2026, bringing together interpretation, community engagement, and preservation awareness.

Dey Mansion, Washington’s Headquarters, 1780 is a historic house museum owned and operated by the County of Passaic in Wayne, New Jersey. Built c. 1770 by Theunis Dey, the mansion served as General George Washington’s Headquarters during the summer and fall of 1780. Today, the Dey Mansion preserves and interprets the region’s Revolutionary War history through tours, public programs, and historic preservation.
