Marquis de Lafayette Living Historian at the John Brown House Museum

The Rhode Island Historical Society has partnered with the American Friends of Lafayette to host a living historian portraying the legendary figure the Marquis de Lafayette on Friday, August 23, from 11am to 12:30pm.

Commemorating the bicentennial anniversary of his return to America as the Guest of the Nation, a time when this last living general from the American Revolution visited cities across the U.S. as a way to celebrate the nation’s 50th anniversary, visitors to the John Brown House Museum can meet with Lafayette for pictures and the chance to see a pop-up exhibit with items relating to Lafayette from the Rhode Island Historical Society’s collections. Admission to the John Brown House Museum is included with the purchase.

This event precedes a full day of commemorative activities and is among the first in a series of programs that runs through September 2025 celebrating Lafayette’s 1825-1825 visit to America hosted by the American Friends of Lafayette. For more details about Lafayette programming, visit Lafayette200.org.

Member admission is free, and non-member admission is $10. Registration is required. Guests can register here.
