Join the RIHS on Wednesday, December 17th, at 3:30pm for a Member Exclusive tour of Blithewold, fully decorated for the holidays.
Each year in late December, the Van Wickle/McKee family, who called Blithewold home, would return to the manor to celebrate Christmas and the New Year. The household staff would arrive days before the family to ready the house for all the holiday celebrations.
Today, Blithewold has volunteer decorators echoing the spirit of the past by transforming the home for visitors, exploring the interests of the Van Wickle/McKee family during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Then, the decorators translate that theme into a dazzling display that celebrates the magic of Christmas.
Guests will first enjoy a tour of the manor, with a focus on the decorating process. Then, venture outside to the beautifully illuminated paths throughout the grounds to discover stunning, newly expanded light displays, handmade bamboo lanterns, and fun photo ops with Big, Beautiful, Bamboo Birds!
