Join the Rhode Island Historical Society on Tuesday, January 13th at 7pm for Cowboy Boots: From the Saddle to the Stage, a virutal presentation from cowboy boot designer and artist Lisa Sorrell.
Sorrell will talk about the craft of cowboy boot making, the history of cowboy boots, and why the American West’s riding boot traditionally has high heels and brightly-colored designs.
Lisa Sorrell is an award-winning artist working in the medium of leather. She makes cowboy boots and shoes in her shop in Oklahoma, working from flat pieces of leather and the client’s measurements, and using hand tools and vintage machinery. She’s known for her passion for tradition, her intricately designed and executed cowboy boots, and the art pieces she’s begun exploring. Sorrell maintains a portfolio of original designs and is well-known in the boot-making world for her design skills. She enjoys speaking about cowboy boots and cowboy boot making, and she teaches and writes on the topic of cowboy boots, footwear, and creating art with leather.
