Museum educators will lead participants through a brief history of these groups and their cultural dances. Children can also get into the rhythm by learning traditional dance steps and moves! \nTuesday\, August 4: I’ve Got No Strings \nIn our puppetry program\, participants will learn about the history of the artform\, including finger\, stick\, and shadow puppets. A professional puppet master will make a guest appearance! Children will also be able to create their own puppets\, using provided materials. \nTuesday\, August 18: Vaudeville & Variety \nChildren will learn about the fascinating and diverse world of vaudeville and variety shows. Rhode Island Historical Society’s Registrar\, Dana Signe K. Munroe\, will present methods for labeling three dimensional objects and paper based objects. We will discuss: what part of the object to label; which labeling materials to use for specific object materials; and techniques for labeling. We will also discuss supplies\, suppliers\, and how to assemble a labeling kit for easy labeling in storage rooms. \nDana has been with the RIHS since 2001. Some plants\, drawing tools\, and papers will be provided for use.
