Attendees can sample poutine throughout the afternoon with Friskie Fries\, Red’s\, and Methods of a Mad Woman food trucks on-site serving the French-Canadian dish of french fries\, gravy and cheese curds. Enjoy mini-world creations\, learn local history\, and meet local artist MJ Robinson\, the creative talent behind the new Junior Ranger program. Get your signed copy of the new booklet and get sworn in as a Junior Ranger. \nThe Kelly and Ashton Mill Junior Ranger Booklet is a self-guided adventure around Blackstone River State Park and its vicinity. Aspiring Junior Rangers of all ages will “Explore\, Learn\, and Protect” their way through the history of this area and maybe even meet some strange creatures along the way. During the April 14 event\, visitors will be able to complete the activity book with rangers\, historians\, and the artist. This remarkable project was managed by the Rhode Island Historical Society in collaboration with the National Park Service. Local teachers first made a suite of lesson plans about the site as part of this initiative. Last year\, MJ Robinson spent months processing the history and aesthetic of the site\, creating drafts and sketches\, and final works of art that express the complexity of the Blackstone Valley. The walk will take place rain or shine. \nAt 11am visitors can sit in on storytime with local children’s author Dr. Jed Griswold will share their works The Little Drop of Water and Leafy the Leaf\, tales of growing up told through the perspective of nature. \nGuests will have the opportunity to get hands-on with nature exploration demonstrations of an EnviroScape\, an interactive environmental education model at 12:30pm and water quality testing with the Blackstone River Coalition at 1:30pm. \nThroughout the day\, visitors will also have the chance to draw and color what they would like their environment to look like in 10 years or write a letter to their representative about an environmental concern. \nIn addition\, all participants will be able to explore the museum free of charge\, including taking a virtual ride down the Blackstone with the new exhibit Flowing Through Time: Nature\, Industry and Communities of the Blackstone River. \nThis event is free and appropriate for all ages.
