Welcome to the Newell D. Goff Center for Education and Public Programs.
The Goff Center connects people with the past by supporting K-12 students and teachers, offering tours and public for the programs, and coordinating professional development for a large network of history and heritage organizations in the state.
The Goff Center operates tours and programs at Rhode Island Historical Society sites, as well as other locations throughout the state. In addition, we create educational materials to be used by students and teachers, provide teacher professional development opportunities, and coordinate Rhode Island’s National History Day state contest.
Collaboration is at the core of our work. We look to our many partners in our sector, the growing field of education and accessibility, as well as our state and municipal agencies to help create stronger and more far reaching programming for our residents and visitors. Additionally, our affiliation with the Smithsonian Institution also provides opportunities to bring in national speakers and access to further educational materials.
Think Like an Archaeologist
Think Like an Archaeologist is a sixth-grade program on archaeology coordinated in partnership with other area organizations.
Rhode Tour is a smartphone app and website that uses text, sound, and images to bring Rhode Island stories to the palm of your hand.
