Historical note:

            The Sayles Farm must have been purchased by the firm of W.F. & F. C. Sayles. It was operated by Sayles Bleacheries and Sayles Finishing Plants as an adjunct to the French River Textile Company and the French River Inn. The farm produced and sold dairy products, eggs, poultry, and livestock to the general public and to the mill workers. The farm management had some responsibility for collecting rents and maintaining tenements belonging to the French River Textile Company.
