Historical note:
The Danielsons were one of the first families to settle in Killingly, Connecticut, which is located in the eastern central part of Windham county on the R.I. border.
James Danielson (b.1689), originally from Block Island, purchased land in Killingly in 1707 and generations of Danielsons after him continued to live there and work as farmers.
Adam B. Danielson (b.1797), the son of Samuel Danielson, was a descendant of James and married Malancy W. Robinson in 1828 with whom he had five children: Mary (b.1829), Albert (b.1836), Samuel D. (b.1834), Simeon (b.1841), Francis W. (b.1839).
Samuel S. Danielson (b.1808) was the son of a Samuel Danielson and was most likely Adam's younger brother.
Jacob W. Danielson (b.1800) was also a descendant of James and married Lucy M. Prince (fl.1827) and together they had five children: George W. (1829-1884), Edward P. (b.1831), Eliza M. (b.1833), Lucy J. (b.1838), and William J. (1843-1916).
George W. Danielson (1829-1884) moved to Providence, R.I. at some point, married Rosa F. Peckham (1842-1922) and served as the First Lieutenant and Quartermaster of the 6th Regiment of the 2nd Brigade of the R.I. Militia during the Civil War.
William J. Danielson also moved to Providence, where he married Anna R. Saunders (1843-1908) and had three children: Lucy Maria (1873-1904), George Whitman (1876-1938), and Edith Russell (1882-1961).

Scope and content:
The Danielson family papers span from 1814 through 1943 and includes letters, mortgage deeds, leases, bills, estate inventories, etc. from various members of the Danielson family. Also included are court documents from the 1892 case of the Westfield Cemetery Association vs. Edward P. Danielson and George W. Danielson's commission as First Lieutenant and Quartermaster in the R.I. Militia during the Civil War (1861-1865).
Provenance:
The first installment of these papers were purchased from Associated Appraisers in February 1970 and the remainder of the papers were donated in August 1970 by Nino Scotti.
Processing note:
This collection had been rehoused into an archival box and folders at an earlier date and was fully processed in March 2007.
