Historical note:
In 1896 the Lorraine Manufacturing Company parent firm was incorporated in the State of Rhode Island, followed in December by the incorporation of the company in New York for the purpose of "...soliciting...orders for the manufacture of goods produced and manufactured at the mills of the Corporation in Rhode Island and Connecticut." Offices were located in Leonard Street in Manhattan. The Lorraine Manufacturing Company of New York also acted as sales agent for mills not within the Sayles corporate structure - notably the Willimantic Cotton Mills. Corporation.
