Historical note:
Robert Hale Ives Goddard Jr. was born in 1909, the son of R.H.I. Goddard (1880-1959) and Margaret Hazard Goddard (1885-1969) of Providence. He was involved in the family investment firm of Brown & Ives.
Scope and content:
This collection consists of Goddard's records while serving on the board of several different charitable organizations. There are no papers relating directly to Goddard in this collection, except for his personal fundraising files for some organizations, United Fund lectures, and his notes on some draft minutes.
Provenance:
This collection was delivered to the R.I.H.S. in 1997 by Sam Hough, who was employed by the firm of Brown & Ives to catalogue their business records. These papers were deemed personal, and can be considered a gift of the Goddard family.
Processing note:
This collection has been only partially processed. Some printed newsletters and reports have been placed in the Printed Collection. A file of RIHS Executive Committee minutes dated 1954-1957 was placed in the RIHS Archives. A single folder relating to the Commecial Club, 1915-1950, was placed in Miscellaneous Manuscripts.

Goddard served as President of this umbrella organization that raised funds for more specialized charitable groups. Records include minutes, fundraising files, personnel files, correspondence, financial records and speeches given by Goddard.
Box 2: Various groups
Arts Rhode Island / United Arts Fund, 1971-1977
Goddard served on the Board of Trustees for this organization, which raised funds for a variety of arts organizations. Records include minutes, correspondence, fundraising files and the 1974 search for an executive director.
Mayor's Port Development Task Force, 1975.
Goddard served as chairman of this committee, which was appointed by the city to develop plans for the Port of Providence. Records include minutes and correspondence, including frequent correspondence with mayor Vincent "Buddy" Cianci.

Goddard did corporate fundraising; we have one folder of his results.

Notes and reports from this committee studying police violence and racial tensions.
Box 3: Rhode Island Group Health Association, 1973-1980
