Historical note:

This organization was formed in 1879 by the veterans of two Civil War regiments: the First Regiment Rhode Island Detached Militia and the First Battery Rhode Island Light Artillery. Its mission as stated in its constitution was "keeping alive the remembrance of the events and incidents of their service and of their associations with each other." They met for annual reunions through at least 1923.
