Hopkinton Town Records Collection Records collection Size: 0.25 linear feet Catalog number: MSS 200 Processed by: Rick Stattler, March 2000 ©Rhode Island Historical Society Manuscripts Division |
Historical note:
The town of Hopkinton was formed in 1757, when it was set off from the town of Westerly. It is located in Washington County (formerly Kings County), in the southwestern part of Rhode Island.
Provenance:
The two copies in folder 2 were made from a family record book donated to the genealogical manuscripts collection by Reginald Dean in 2000. The tax records from 1820 and 1821 were acquired from the estate of Arthur W. Brown in 1909 and 1910. The school record was a gift of Ruth Crandall in 1962. The list of freemen was found in volume 3 of the "R.I.H.S.M." collection and was probably donated before 1900, but no accession record was found. The provenance of the 1822 and 1823 tax records is unknown, but they presumably arrived with similar records from other towns before 1970.
