Provenance:

These are the original draft minutes kept by the town council. A complete run of transcribed minutes is reported to be at the Providence City Archives.

The provenance of most of the collection is unknown. It presumably arrived as part of the Providence Town Papers. The 1803 minute book was purchased from Sumner Stone in 1986, and the two pages from the 1804 book were purchased from Frank Arguello in 2001.

The John Hay Library at Brown University holds six volumes of draft town council minutes as follows: three volumes, 1800-1801; April 1806; February to December 1810; April to September 1814. These volumes were all acquired on the open market. Other volumes may remain in private hands.
