Historical note:
The town of Smithfield was set off from Providence in 1731. In 1871, it was divided into Smithfield, Lincoln, North Smithfield and Woonsocket.
Provenance:
The following accessions are represented in this collection. The provenance of many items remains unknown. Some items, especially the 1731 boundary document, appear to have come from the Theodore Foster Papers.
