Historical note:
The present boundaries of Warren were originally within Swansea, Massachusetts. It was set off as Barrington in 1717. In 1746, the town was transferred to the state of Rhode Island, as the town of Warren. The present town of Barrington was set off from Warren in 1770. A portion of the town of Bristol was annexed to Warren in 1873.
Scope and content:
This collection contains several tax lists, school lists, a voting list, and miscellaneous other early town records.
Provenance:
The provenance of this material is unknown; it was probably assembled in one place circa 1980 from miscellaneous items that had been in the collection for many years. Several of the tax lists arrived in 1975 as part of the Harris-Hawes family papers.
