Historical note:
The town of West Greenwich was set off from East Greenwich in 1741. Prominent villages in the town include Escoheag, Hopkins Hill, Mishnock, Nooseneck, and West Greenwich Center.
Scope and content:
This collection includes tax records from 1744, and 1822 through 1826; school attendance reports from 1857 through 1861; vital records transcriptions from 1741 through 1850; and voting lists from 1843 through 1869 inclusive. The school lists provide for each student their father's name, a summary of their studies, and their age, but only some districts' records are preserved.
In addition, there are two single items: an overseers of the poor document from 1849, and the town council minutes from March 30, 1812.
Provenance:
This collection came from miscellaneous sources over the years, and is unknown except where noted. It was probably first gathered together in the 1980's.
