Historical note:
Brown University was founded as Rhode Island College by the Baptists in 1765, in the town of Warren, Rhode Island. It was moved to Providence in 1770. University Hall, its first building, was built that year. In 1804, it was renamed Brown University in honor of prominent supporter Nicholas Brown.
Scope and content:
This collection contains miscellaneous items relating to Brown University, including the results of a survey done to determine the residents of University Hall over the years; questionnaires collected by the music department in 1952 regarding the state's primary and secondary music education; records of two student societies (the United Brothers, and the Society for Prayer), and several miscellaneous documents. The University's full archives are kept at their John Hay Library.
