Historical note:

Dotha Bushnell (1861-1921) was the youngest of four children of Congregationalist minister George Bushnell (1818-1898) and Mary Elizabeth Blake (1833-1916). She was named after her grandmother, Dotha (Bishop) Bushnell (1781-1838). She was raised in Beloit, Wisconsin, and moved with her family to New Haven, Connecticut in 1884. After the death of her father in 1898, she moved to Peace Dale, R.I., where her sister Mary P. (Bushnell) Hazard resided. There she became involved with the Italians who came to work at her brother-in-law's textile mill, and founded the Dove and Distaff Society, a shop that sold lace and other handicrafts on behalf of Italian-American immigrant women. She was also very active in American Red Cross activities during World War I, and taught Sunday School at the Peace Dale Congregational Church. She died in 1921.
