Historical note:


            Peleg Heath (1708-1748) was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts and was ordained as a minister in Barrington, R.I. in 1728. His son Nathaniel (1745-1829) was a carpenter and furniture maker in Barrington. He married Rebecca Brown (1746-1816), and they had 10 children. The youngest, Wilmarth Heath (1787-1862), was a shoemaker in Barrington.

Provenance:


            The two sermon books were donated by Thomas W. Bicknell circa 1909, as part of a collection of Barrington papers. Two items were purchased from an unknown source in 1953. The remainder seem to have arrived together during the 1960s, but no accession information has been found.

Diary and memorandum book, 1728-1746. Contains genealogical information and mentions earthquakes of 1737 and 1744.

            Two small notebooks of sermons preached, 1730-1736.

Memorandum book kept by Nathaniel from 1814 through 1829, and continued by his son through 1865. Includes mostly genealogical information and some accounts. Available on microfilm.
