Historical note:
H. Martin Brown (1850-1926) was born in Bolton, Connecticut, the son of Arba H. and Harriet (Dart) Brown. He moved to Providence in 1887, and served on the boards of numerous corporations. When his brother, D. Russell Brown (1848-1919), was Governor of Rhode Island from 1892 through 1895, H. Martin served as his chief of staff and held the rank of Colonel of the Militia. He was also a staunch Republican. The pinnacle of his career was the presidency of the Industrial National Bank of Providence, which held from 1912 to 1924.
His younger daughter Marion N. Brown (d. after 1973) married in 1908 lawyer Harvey A. Baker (1881-1951). Baker also held honorary rank as Colonel, and served as District Attorney from 1914-1920.
Their daughter Marion M. Baker (d. after 1962 ) married mechanical engineer Evert W. Freeman (d. ca. 1959) of Providence in 1940.
