Historical note:

            The Foxes Hill Corporation was incorporated in 1959. The corporation purchased endangered historic homes on the east side of Providence, restored them, and sold them for a profit. Two houses, at 21 and 40 Sheldon Street, were thus restored. The corporation's charter was revoked in 1967 for non-payment of taxes. Later that year, the Hill Realty Company was chartered with similar intent.

Scope and content:

            This collection contains the working papers of John A. Gwynne, treasurer of the Foxes Hill Corporation. Included are minutes, correspondence, and working notes. Also included are extensive financial records, and detailed files on houses restored.

            The collection was a gift of Barbara Gwynne in 1994.

            The collection was unfolded, sorted and placed in an acid-free box and folders. Duplicates were discarded. Material relating to Mrs. Gwynne's activities with the Hill Realty Company were removed to Mss 901.
