Summary

The Museum of Work & Culture seeks an enthusiastic, detail-oriented college student for its paid Richard and Lyse-Anne Lepine Internship.

The Lepine intern will work at the Museum three days per week (21 hours) from mid-June until mid-September (dates to be determined) under the instruction of the Museum’s education and program staff. This 13-week internship pays $18/hour. The Lepine intern will get the opportunity to learn introductory skills related to museum education, exhibition development, collections management, and administration at a local history museum.

Responsibilities

Duties for this internship include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Leading museum tours, including the Museum’s outdoor tour
  • Working with Museum collections
  • Assisting with summer camp daily activities and field trips
  • Working on development of rotating exhibits
  • Aiding in installation and deinstallation of exhibitions as needed
  • Assisting with front desk duties
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Requirements for this position are as follows:

  • Enrolled at a college or university in Rhode Island
  • History major/minor or focus in similar liberal arts field
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Willingness to take initiative, work independently, and ask questions
  • Ease with operating systems, including Google Drive and Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity in working with or volunteering at museums
  • Comfortable working with elementary, middle and high school students
  • Interest in American history, immigration history, labor history a plus
  • Collections work a plus
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or French a plus
