William Blodgett (artist). Pastel drawing on paper. On August 27, 1777, the Rhode Island Privateer Ship "Oliver
Cromwell" under the command of Commander Samuel Chace, Jr. was driven
ashore and destroyed by "HMS Sloop Kingfisher", in the Sakonnet
River, Rhode Island. During the Battle of Rhode Island 7 August 1778 the
"HMS Kingfisher" was burned by its own crew to avoid capture by the
Continental Navy.
