President Street, The First Baptist Meeting House and Adjoining Buildings
Joseph Partridge, 1822
Overall: 22.75 x 30 in.  Image: 16 x 24.75 in.

This view of Providence, from Benefit Street looking down present-day Waterman Street is one of the few surviving paintings by Joseph Partridge.  An unknown admirer writing in the Providence Gazette, May 8th, 1822, noted that: “His view of President-street, the Baptist Meeting-House and adjoining buildings, with a part of the cove and distant hill on the West, has been justly praised as an admirably exact picture.”
