We cordially invite you to join us on Thursday, June 9th, 2022, from 4.30pm-7.00pm, for a professional development workshop that will help educators explore how to effectively utilize primary source materials in their classrooms.
The 1st Rhode Island Regiment, an integrated military unit who bravely fought during the American Revolution, will be the foundation for the workshop discussion. Participants will also have the opportunity to apply the content and strategies highlighted in the session to their own practices. Attendees are encouraged to bring classroom lesson plans and/or curriculum modules, relevant to their respective disciplines, to model workshop learnings.
The workshop will be facilitated by Providence College’s Prof. Nuria Alonso García and Prof. Theresa Moore and will also include guidance and insights from representatives from the RI Black Heritage Society, the RI Historical Society, the RI State Archives and the Varnum Memorial Armory Museum.
The event will be hosted at the Rhode Island Community Foundation, One Union Street, Providence, and refreshments will be served. Please register on Eventbrite. Providence College, the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society and the Rhode Island Historical Society are partnering to host this event.
