The Hittner Research Fellowship at the Rhode Island Historical Society
The Rhode Island Historical Society is now accepting applications for the Barry Hittner Research Fellowship in Rhode Island History to support scholarly research in its library and museum collections during the 2025 calendar year. The Hittner Fellowship will be awarded annually, and in 2025, will provide a stipend of $2,500 to support 2–4 weeks of resident research in the collections.
The RIHS welcomes applications from all researchers, including but not limited to graduate students, public historians, academic scholars, and independent researchers. At the conclusion of their research visit, the Hittner Fellow will be invited to present their work and findings to the RIHS community in some public forum (in-person or virtual). Please note that the Hittner Fellowship is only available to United States residents or those with a F-1 visa AND a U.S. taxpayer identification number. The RIHS cannot sponsor visas for researchers.
Applications are due by December 15, 2024, and notifications will be sent via email no later than January 31, 2025.
