In this illustrated presentation, Geralyn Ducady, Director of the Newell D. Goff Center for Education and Public Programs at the Rhode Island Historical Society, will start with chocolate’s origins and use in ancient Mesoamerica. She will then take the audience on a journey as we follow chocolate’s global expansion in the Triangle Trade and up to Rhode Island. We will take a look at chocolate production in Newport and Providence, its social uses in the colonial period, and how it became what we are familiar with today.
