Description | RIHS Educators will join your classroom to lead a 45 minute-1 hour long inquiry-based, hands-on program exploring the history of the slave trade and slavery in Rhode Island. Students will participate in a close-looking activity with historic object reproductions and a close reading of narratives from individuals who experienced enslavement and its legacies. Through these activities, students will have the opportunity to discuss the impact of enslavement on the lives of the enslaved and Rhode Islanders generally. This program is aligned with the Rhode Island 4th and 5th grade social studies standards but can be adapted for other grade levels. This program is eligible to be free of charge through the Klyberg Education Access Fund for Title I schools |
