On this lovely 43 degree and sunny January day, I cannot help but miss the snow. Of course, like all Rhode Islanders, I am never satisfied with the weather. It is never warm enough, cold enough, wet enough or dry enough. Luckily for us the weather is sure to change, just give it 15 minutes.
The Charlotte Estey Collection (G 1150) in our Graphics Collection at the Mary Elizabeth Robinson Research Center has some beautiful photographs of Providence and East Providence taken by Charlotte Estey circa 1950 in the snow:
The Charlotte Estey Collection also contains her photography of Bristol, Galilee, Hopkinton, Little Compton, Newport, North Scituate, Pettaquamscutt River, Point Judith, Portsmouth, Providence, Rumford, Sakonnet and a series on cast iron work in Rhode Island and another series on ship’s figureheads at the New Bedford Whaling Museum.
We are currently cataloging her safety and nitrate negatives. In the mean time you can view her silver gelatin photographs at the Mary Elizabeth Robinson Research Center under the following call numbers:
